Justice in Education and Design

There should be an emphasis on designing with people in the work we do, not just designing for them. As learning designers, it's important that we recognize and incorporate the funds of knowledge that our learners bring with them. The best way to do this is by including those who will be most impacted by our designs in the design process. I aim to put learners at the center of my process and design in a way that empowers learners. This is something I was introduced to in this program, and I hope to do more work like this in the future.

It's important to consider the bigger picture when designing for learning. Through our theories of change course, I was challenged to look at the big picture of my design projects. I had to consider the intended short-term outcomes and long-term goals and why those outcomes were desired. This exploration also led me to a fundamental question: who wants these outcomes? This aspect resonates deeply with concepts of justice in design and education, as it pushes me to assess how the learning experiences I design serve the needs of the communities that engage with them.
